Career

Simmons grew up in Adelaide. Before entering into radio, he was a zookeeper.

Since 2003 Simmons has performed on Australian radio, initially at 3RRR in Melbourne as a guest on breakfast show, The Pinch. In 2005 he appeared on the Fox FM show Better than Church as regular guest, “The Animal Guy”.

In 2005 he debuted on youth radio station Triple J as a regular guest on the Dave Callan show. During 2006 and 2007 he hosted the Stranger Danger weekly segment on the Drive Show with Robbie Buck. In 2007 he hostedThe Tuck Shop mid-dawn shift. During the summer of 2007-2008 he presented a week-night show he called Summer Nights Bitch. During 2008 he presented the Weekend Breakfast show.

Simmons has also been much involved with the Melbourne Comedy Festival both as staff (Workshop Leader)[1] and as performer.

Simmons currently appears in spots on triple j tv as well as on Triple J radio. He previously appeared on the week-day afternoon Triple J Dools show with Scott Dooley, where he would present Shitty Trivia and Snapshots.

Controversy

On December 7, 2007, when Triple J announced the new presenter line up for 2008, Robbie Buck announced that Simmons would be hosting both the Breakfast and Drive slots. When Simmons came on for Summer Nights Bitch, he announced that the hatred directed at him over the text line for this (false) announcement had "broken him", and after cutting to a song, stormed out of the studio,[2] leaving Scott Dooley to cover for him for the rest of the shift. The original audio is hosted at JPlay.[3]

Personal Life

On 13th of May, 2011, Sam received a goat tattooed on his bottom on live radio as part of a dare for his 24 hour- a-thon hosting Triple J. He also well known for his moustache, often mistaken for a real-life Mario from Mario Brothers, the computer game.
